What is Drama Therapy?
Drama Therapy is a form of therapy intended to explore different scenarios of action, words and intuition in order to provide catharsis, perspective and healing for clients in group and individual settings.
Drama therapy can be approached many ways:
- Role Playing: creating a character or taking on characteristics for a certain goal, e.g. practicing for job interviews
- Play Therapy: using playfulness to explore deeper significance of a personal event
- Sociodrama: exploring the dynamics of a common theme, e.g. trust or self-advocacy, in a group setting
- Psychodrama: a group focusing on and recreating a participant’s traumatic memory to support them as they heal from it by finding alternative choices to that event
